Students raise more than $3,000 for music program

Pledges, T-shirt sales total $3,169.21

Parents, teachers and 20 students raised $3,169.21 for the music program at Edna M. Moyle Primary School with an early-morning walkathon on a recent Saturday.

Gathering at their North Side campus from before 6 a.m., the group set out for Cayman Kai Public Park, a distance of 7.2K. Principal Marcia Rennie said some of the younger children walked a 2.5K or 5K, so water stations were set up at those marks.

District MLA Ezzard Miller patrolled the route in his bright red truck to pick up anyone who tired along the way.

PTA vice-president Carol Saunds said money was raised from pledges obtained by the walkers, plus the sale of T-shirts that were sponsored by Davenport Development after parent Mark Jordan presented his employer with the opportunity to support the event.
