Swimmers bloom at Flowers event

Seven Mile Beach was transformed into a sea of color on Saturday, as hundreds of competitors turned out for the annual Flowers Sea Swim.

The 1-mile stretch from The Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman to Royal Palms bobbed with red, green and orange swim caps as people of every size, shape and ability level took part in Cayman’s popular sporting showpiece.

The event, organized by the Flowers family and in its 23rd year, attracts swimmers from age 8 to 80, with former Olympians to beginner swimmers just trying to make it to the finish line.

From the first-place finisher Jordan Wilimovsky, who crossed the line in under 17 minutes, to Daniel Taylor, last across the line in one hour and 13 minutes, every competitor gave their all.

Hundreds of prizes worth more than $100,000 were given out in an after-race ceremony that went on long into the evening.
