Man charged with burglary, liquor theft

A man charged with burglary of a North Church Street bar and theft from an Eastern Avenue liquor store is scheduled to have his bail application heard on Tuesday.

Wayne Jeffrey Dilbert, 54, appeared in Summary Court from custody on Monday, when defense attorney John Furniss advised that he would be applying for bail.

Crown counsel Eleanor Fargin said she would be objecting.

Dilbert is charged with entering Cayman Cabana bar as a trespasser on Aug. 28 and stealing a bottle of champagne, two cases of beer and 15 bottles of craft beer, with a total value of $175.

Dilbert is further charged with the theft of a bottle of Hennessy Cognac from Cayman Distributors Liquor Outlet on Eastern Avenue. This alleged offense occurred on Aug. 18. The value of the stolen item was $57.99.

Magistrate Valdis Foldats set the matter for mention again the next day so that Mr. Furniss would have more time to take instructions from the defendant.
