The Breeze Fusion 3 Mile Walk/Run attracted more than 200 participants at Smith Barcadere on Saturday and two local charities benefited from proceeds.
The ninth annual staging of the event saw walkers and runners raise $2,000 each for the National Council of Voluntary Organisations and Meals on Wheels.
The event started with walkers setting off at 6:30 a.m. followed by the runners who hit the pavement at 6:45 a.m.
Jason Saunders won in 17 minutes, 52.04 seconds and teenager Victor Magalhaes (18:14.52) was second with Bruce Mangatam (19:57.24) third.
The Nikki’s Voice duo of Scott Ruby pushing Nikki Christian in her pram was judged the first female in 20:48.28, Tiffany Cole (21:42.50) was second female and Molly Kehoe (23:14.74) third.
Ruby will be pushing Christian the full 26.2 miles of the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon on Dec. 6 and this was an ideal training run.
Coach Jerry Harper was honored for his support and commitment over the years. Deputy Governor Franz Manderson presented him with a plaque and gifts on behalf of the organizing committee.
Participant Eziethamae Bodden said she was pleased to see so many young people participating in the event. A large group from George Town Primary School participated in the run and retained their title as having the school with the most participants.
Radio Cayman’s Deputy Director of Broadcasting Paulette Connolly expressed thanks to signature sponsor Ogier and the many other sponsors.
