Bulk waste collections begin

It’s time to get rid of old household appliances, furniture and yard waste: the annual bulk waste clean-up campaign started this week.

From now through Dec. 19, the Department of Environmental Health will be going through all of Cayman’s districts collecting bulk waste materials that are not part of the department’s normal bi-weekly collections. These items should be placed curbside where they can be accessed by the department’s trucks, but they should not be placed in such a way that they obstruct traffic.

All metals and vegetative waste should be separated from the rest of the bulk waste items. Metal items include old appliances, metal furniture and metal roofing. Vegetative waste includes all plant trimmings and tree branches.

Construction and demolition debris will not be collected as they are not considered bulk waste.

The pick-up schedule for Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman is as follows:

East End and North Side Districts: Nov. 23 to Nov. 28

Bodden Town District: Nov. 30 to Dec. 5

George Town District: Dec. 7 to Dec. 12

West Bay District: Dec. 14 to Dec. 19

Cayman Brac: Nov. 30 to Dec. 4.

Residents should not put items out after the above dates, because the Department of Environment crews will not be returning to an area once it has been cleaned.
