Fidelity cross island relay set for Feb. 7

The Fidelity Bank and Cayman Hash Harriers are hosting the annual Fidelity Cross Island Relay on Feb. 7.

The race, a six-man team event, starts at 6 a.m. near Collier’s Beach in East End and ends at Smith Cove in South Sound.

The Fidelity Run requires each teammate to run a 4-mile leg. Red Cross volunteers will provide water at the halfway mark, per leg. However, teams are responsible for providing water at the end of each 4-mile run, and transportation to and from each leg.

Tom Gammage, Fidelity’s vice president and regional marketing manager, said the event has been popular for decades “because it is a community event. It is definitely about team building. It encourages a ‘no man is left behind’ philosophy as team members encourage each other along the various legs of the race. At the end there is a unified sense of accomplishment felt by everyone on the team.”

Trophies will be awarded for the first five teams in the Open Division, the first three teams in the Ladies Only Division, and in the Corporate Division. Presentation of awards begins at 10 a.m.

Pre-registration is available at Packet pick-up and in-person registration will be held on Feb. 6 at the Observation Tower in Camana Bay from noon-4 p.m. There will be no registration on the day of the event.
