The 2016 Junior Amateur Championships on Oct. 8 and 9 at the North Sound Golf Club featured 26 players aged 17 and under in five divisions.
In the Girls 36-hole championship, Holly McLean defended her title with a total score over the two days of 170. Runners-up were Lauren Needham (220) and Tabitha Hawkins (239), both of whom were playing in their first championship.
The Boys 36-hole championship from the Blue Tees was closely contested, with brothers Andrew and Aaron Jarvis and Justin Hastings within four shots of each other after the first round. Older brother Andrew, who at 17 was taking part in his last Junior Championship, held on to his lead and won with a 1 under par round of 70, giving him a final score of 141 for the two days. Aaron finished second (146) and Justin finished third (148).
Andrew Hastings won the boys 36-hole competition playing from the White Tees with a total score of 168. Runner-up was Tom Dickens (178).
Two other divisions were contested over nine holes from the red tees. Out of a field of six in the under-10 boys division, Danny Lyne won with a score of 36. James Rees won in the 10-and-over division with 41, and Beth Walton won the girls division (54).
During the trophy ceremony, James Walton, Cayman Islands Golf Association Junior Golf Coordinator, thanked HighWater for their sponsorship and support, as well as all the volunteers, and he congratulated all of the junior golfers on the standard of play over the two days, a press release said.
