Horse jumping series advances

Polly Serpell on Sunday's Edition clears a jump in the FEI Jumping Challenge on Sunday.

The Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation held the second leg of its four-part National Jumping Series horse show at the Cayman Riding School on March 19. The two fastest times of the day were clocked by Kayla Godwin riding Harry in both the 0.7M and 0.8M classes.

Several new riders participated in the series, including Jardae Barnes, Freya Timms, Sunday Groves, Amber McMillan, Stephanie Lloyd and Paula Daniels, according to a press release.

The course was designed by Heidi Mello, an FEI Level 3 course designer from Bermuda, who will be creating the jump courses for all four of the series shows this season.

Winners of each class

0.6M Ponies – Skye Buckley riding Beanie; 0.6M Horses – Jardae Barnes riding Austin; 0.7M Ponies – Marleigh Smith riding Max; 0.7M Horses – Kayla Godwin riding Harry; 0.8M Ponies – Abby Swartz riding Blue Ridge Dream On; 0.8m Horses – Kayla Godwin riding Harry.

Next up

The third leg of the National Jumping Series is scheduled for 8 a.m. on April 30 at the Equestrian Center on the Linford Pierson Highway. The next horse show is the CEA Caribbean Dressage Challenge on April 2, starting at 7:45 a.m. at the Equestrian Center and continuing at 2:30 p.m. at Cayman Riding School. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.
