The annual Cayman Islands Triathlon will be held Sunday and organizers are urging motorists to be on the lookout for cyclists and runners on local roads during the event.

The race begins at Seven Mile Public Beach at 6:45 a.m. with a 750-meter or 1,500-meter swim, depending on whether participants have signed up for the Sprint or Olympic distance. This will be followed by a 12.4-mile or 24.8-mile bike ride, and a 3.1-mile or 6.2-mile run.

Some 140 people have registered to take part this year.

To ensure the safety of the participants during the running and cycling sections, the southbound lane of West Bay Road will be closed between the roundabout near Seven Mile Public Beach and the intersection with Lime Tree Bay Avenue between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Road marshals will be on hand to help manage traffic, including along the Esterley Tibbetts Highway between Lime Tree Bay Avenue and Batabano Road.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution in this area during this time.

A post-race awards ceremony will be held at Duke’s Seafood and Rib Shack, opposite Seven Mile Beach.
