MLAs need to set green example

Over the past few years the world has become more and more aware of the very serious and real damage plastic is doing to our environment, from micro plastics now found in the fish we eat to the plastic trash that washes up on our beaches daily, and indeed our very own floating plastic patch found by fishermen recently.

For the very first time, I took a trip to the Legislative Assembly in session which was fascinating for many reasons. I was most distressed, however, to see that every member was issued a plastic bottle along with a glass. It made me realise how we, as a small island, still have so very far to go.

It would be good to see our Legislative Assembly lead by example. Reduce, re-use, recycle and try to avoid using single-use plastic!
