Emails purporting to come from the Cayman Compass carrying reports of contaminated water are a phishing scam.
The emails appear to come from a Compass email address, [email protected]. However, these emails do not originate at the media company.
The fake story references the water supply of Water Authority-Cayman being shut off due to contamination.
The Water Authority, in a statement to make the public aware of the bogus message, said its water supply has not been compromised in any way and that the company undertakes daily quality-control testing of its water to ensure its safety.
The Compass has alerted police to the scam.
