The Health Ministry statement said the Public Health Department also confirmed that up to 8am on Wednesday, there had been 1,415 total positive lateral flow tests since the introduction of the lateral flow test programme in the Cayman Islands, which are included in the total positive numbers that have been issued.

Earlier that day, acting Director of Primary Healthcare and Deputy Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eryka Simmons released a weekly video update from the PHD on trends in COVID-19 data from 7-13 Nov. which showed an an average of 202 new COVID-19 cases per day and a weekly total of 1,413 new cases.

The weekly trends data is being reported by “epidemiological week” which runs from Sunday to the following Saturday and is commonly referred to as an epi week or a CDC week. It is a standardised method of counting weeks to allow for the comparison of data, said the Health Ministry.

Of the week’s new positives, Simmons said, 31 percent were fully vaccinated, three percent had one shot, and 67 percent were unvaccinated.

Overall, she said, 51 percent of the cases were female, and 49 percent male.

The ages of positive cases ranged from two months to 96 years, with an average age of 31 years.

“One was under one year of age, 354 were under the age of 18, and 17 over the age of 70. Most of the cases are in the workforce,” she said.

Dr. Simmons urged residents to continue with personal prevention measures.

“In the context of wide community transmission, Public Health is advising enhanced vigilance in prevention strategies. If you are isolated or quarantined, you may still prevent ongoing transmission if you adhere to the recommendations. Wear your masks, use hand sanitiser and practice physical distance where possible,” she said.

Meanwhile, as of 8am on Wednesday there had been 119,998 COVID-19 vaccinations given in total in the Cayman Islands.

Of these, 57,450 people or 81% of an estimated 71,106 population had at least one dose of the vaccine and 55,263 individuals or 78% had completed the two-dose course.

Additionally, 7,729 people, representing 11% of the total estimated population, had received a third or booster dose up to that point.
