Cayman Islands Fire Service personnel are engaging in damping down operations at the George Town landfill after steam was spotting rising from the site overnight.
The Fire Service, through a brief statement, said fire fighters have been at the landfill since the steam was sighted at 6:46pm Friday.
“So far work has consisted of damping down the area, but with new hotspots identified this morning, arrangements are being made to bring in more crews and equipment, to begin the work of overturning and saturating debris,” the short statement said.
