A joint emergency services search — aided by a radio operator and private citizens from Cayman Brac and Little Cayman — is ongoing for a missing vessel that was reported in distress southwest of Little Cayman Thursday morning.

Police, in a brief statement, said as of 4:50pm Thursday afternoon, there was no sighting of the missing vessel, and search efforts remain ongoing.

The statement said at 9:10am Thursday, emergency services received the report of a vessel in distress and search and rescue efforts commenced.

Led by the RCIPS — including the Air Operations Unit — the Cayman Islands Coast Guard, and the Cayman Islands Fire Service mobilised staff to assist with the operation, which continued throughout the day.
