There are now 27 people in hospital, as of 8am Thursday, according to Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee’s latest update, which is one fewer than at the same time on Wednesday.
Out of 934 PCR tests, there were 140 positive results, two of which were from travellers and 138 were from the community.
These results brought the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands to 4,132. The total number of cases recorded since the start of the pandemic stood at 6,599 as of the Thursday report, with 4,610 people in isolation.
The Public Health Department also confirmed that there had been 1,728 total positive lateral flow tests since the introduction of that testing programme in the Cayman Islands. These are included in the total positive numbers given above.
On the Sister Islands, as at 8am Thursday, Faith Hospital confirmed there were 19 active cases, with seven COVID-positive individuals identified in the previous 24 hours. To date, there have been 115 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, of which 96 have recovered.
In addition, out of the total number of COVID cases in the Sister Islands, 59 were fully vaccinated, six were partially vaccinated, and 50 were unvaccinated.
Information about the vaccination status of the cases on Grand Cayman – including the hospitalisations – was not provided.
First vaccinations stutter
Up to 8am on Thursday, there had been 123,277 COVID-19 vaccinations given in total in the Cayman Islands.
Of these, 57,918 (81% of 71,106) had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine – just 44 more first doses than previously announced.
Meanwhile 55,819 individuals (79%) had completed the two-dose course – 68 more than reported in Wednesday’s update.
Additionally, 9,984 people (representing 14% of the total population) had received a third, or booster, dose as of Thursday – 245 more than last stated.
