Police on Friday confirmed that a missing boat that had been reported as being in distress was located shortly before 10pm Thursday night, after it ran aground on the reef near the Hungry Iguana restaurant on Little Cayman.
A Cayman Islands Fire Service vessel, with police and fire service officers on board, attended the location, and was met by medical personnel, police said.
The vessel was recovered and the people on board were found to be in good health.
Police and the government thanked the agencies and private citizens who took part in the search, including radio operator Raymond Scott on Cayman Brac, who “assisted in establishing communications with vessels traversing the area earlier in the day”.
They also thanked the people in Little Cayman who provided overnight accommodation for those on the boat.
The search began on Thursday morning, after emergency services received the report of a vessel in distress.
The RCIPS’s helicopter, as well as the Cayman Islands Coast Guard and the Fire Service, took part in the search operation throughout the day.
