The 26-year-old George Town man arrested in connection with stalking incidents in South Sound last Monday has been released on bail while investigations continue, police have confirmed.

In an emailed response to Cayman Compass queries, police stated that investigations are continuing into these incidents.

A previous police statement said the incidents happened the morning of 3 Jan. and involved women exercising in the South Sound area.

There were two reports of women being approached by a man riding a bicycle that morning, police said.

One of the victims shared her story with the Compass last week. She had been attacked, dragged into the bushes and choked.

She said she fought off her attacker while fearing for her life.

That incident happened just after 6:30am on South Sound Road, but the victim said she first saw the man on South Church Street.

Prior to that attack, a man riding a bicycle of a similar description approached a woman who was walking on Elgin Avenue and started saying inappropriate things to her.

She encountered the man again on South Church Street, at which time she sought the assistance of a security officer at a nearby condo and made a police report.

The woman did not receive any injuries during the incident.

Police have appealed for information from anyone who might have seen the incidents take place, or saw a lone male on a bicycle in the areas of South Church Street, Walker Road or South Sound Road in the early morning hours of 3 Jan.

The public, especially women, are being advised to be alert and ready to dial 9-1-1 at the first sign of suspicious behaviour that may prove to be dangerous while walking or jogging.

Anyone who has had similar experiences recently is being encouraged to notify police.

Information regarding the incidents can be submitted to George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

Editor’s note: Police have clarified an earlier statement which indicated that the file on these incidents is with the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will determine next steps. The file is actually still in progress.
