Swimmer to tackle North Sound crossing for Jasmine

Long-distance swimmer Brian Elliott plans to tackle North Sound on 4 April.

It seems to be the season for swimmers raising money for great causes.

On Sunday, 3 April, Alicia Proud-Rabess swam along Seven Mile Beach, starting at Cemetery Beach in West Bay, in order to raise money to build a contraceptive health clinic in Lilongwe, Malawi. Her colleagues Claire Roscoe and Amanda Goodwin will be swimming Lake Malawi on Monday, 4 April for the same cause.

Also, on 4 April, Brian Elliott will be in Cayman, taking to the water at Starfish Point at 7am, and making his way to Barkers. His challenge was created in order to raise awareness and funds for Jasmine, while also acting as a training exercise for Elliott who is planning for an English Channel swim in 2023.

Elliott grew up in Cayman, but presently lives in the UK.

“I have always wanted to do this swim [across the North Sound],” Elliott said. “It is part of my training for a relay team swim across the Channel and to swim Coniston Water in the Lake District.

“Jasmine is a great organisation that does such important work for end-of-life care, that we’ll all need at some stage.”

An old friend from school, Marcus Cumber, will be lending his vessel to act as a support boat, which will follow Elliott on his journey. Assuming all goes well, he is hoping to finish the swim in approximately three hours.
