
A murder investigation has been launched into the death of a 63-year-old man who was gunned down at a George Town commercial complex.
The victim was found unresponsive at the scene on School Road with “what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his head”, according to a police press release Tuesday.
Police have not released the victim’s identity.
According to police, the body was found by police and emergency services responding to a 911 call around 8.30pm on Monday. He was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting occurred in a small blue building across from George Town primary; when Cayman Compass staff arrived on the location, the scene had been cordoned off, as police investigate the incident.
Detectives appealed for witnesses to come forward. Police did not name the premises in their initial release or provide any further details of the incident.
A press conference has been called at police headquarters in George Town for 5pm and the Compass will have a full update following the briefing.
