The Filipino community in the Cayman Islands is holding its annual festival at the Lions Community Centre on Sunday, 3 July from 5-9pm.
Each year, the group chooses local charities to benefit from the funds raised at the event, and this time the Cayman Islands Cancer Society and Meals On Wheels are the two organisations that have been selected.
The cultural celebration will feature music, costumes, theatre, traditional dances, food and drink, with a king and queen contest as part of the festivities.
The 2021 festival was very well supported by the public and the Cayman Islands government, with hundreds coming out for an evening of entertainment and camaraderie. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
The Cayman Bayanihan society organises the event so people from the Philippines living on the island can celebrate together, as well as share their country’s culture with others. It also recognises the needs of local charities, particularly as a number of Filipinos assist such organisations.
“Meals On Wheels is very honoured to have been selected as one of the charities benefitting from the Philippine Festival this year,” said Jennifer West, general manager of MOW. “We also appreciate the work that members of the Filipino community do, as many of them volunteer for us.”
Raffle tickets will be on sale for $25 each, with the chance of winning cash, a car, and many other prizes.
