Minister of Health Sabrina Turner has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement released by the Office of the Premier this morning.
Turner, who is the MP for Prospect, tested positive in a lateral flow test she took this morning (18 July), and she is awaiting the results of a confirmatory PCR test, the statement noted.
She is described as being “mildly symptomatic”, and will remain at home for the next seven days.
Premier Wayne Panton, in the statement, wished Turner a speedy recovery on behalf of himself and his colleagues.
According to the latest COVID-19 figures released by government on Thursday last week, there were an estimated 871 active cases in Cayman.
Public Health announced last week that the extremely contagious BA.5 Omicron sub-variant, which has become the dominant strain in several countries, has been detected in Cayman for the first time.
