The Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort ballroom will be turning shades of red on Friday, 30 Sept., as the Cayman Heart Fund holds its Red Dress Heart Heroes Awards lunch for 2022.
The annual event celebrates Cayman’s inspirational Heart Heroes who have shown courage, resilience, compassion, and bravery in the face of debilitating heart and circulatory conditions.
The ages of those affected may surprise those unfamiliar with heart disease and strokes, which can strike without discrimination. That is why raising awareness about the subject is so vitally important. Throughout the lunch, videos will be shown of those who have struggled with heart issues firsthand, and Doug ‘Dr. Doug’ Dodds – programme director and on-air radio personality – will be speaking on stage about his own experience.
Dodds survived open heart surgery in 2018 to repair a severely calcified aortic valve. Without the immediate treatment he received he may not have survived. He is subsequently fiercely passionate about spreading his story, as spotting the early signs of heart valve problems and seeking early treatment could help others in the future.
The awards will be presented to the Heart Heroes being honoured on the day, and then there will be a live auction to raise money for the organisation. There are four items on the list: An original painting by revered local artist John Broad; dinner with Governor Martyn Roper and Elisabeth Roper; a three-night stay at Sir Turtle Beach Villas in Little Cayman for up to eight people; and a two-hour boat trip for 10.
Tickets for the Red Dress Heart Heroes Awards lunch are $150 each or $1,500 for a table of 10. They include a welcome cocktail, three-course lunch, ceremony, door prizes and entertainment. The event runs from 11:30am-2:30pm in the Marriott ballroom. For more information or to buy tickets, call 916-6324 or email [email protected].
