Josiah, who will be 1 year old in May, was born prematurely, at about 28 weeks, with a hole in his heart. During a final check-up before he was born, doctors also discovered a mass in Litchmore that they later biopsied and confirmed it was cancer.
The musical celebration took place on Saturday, 23 March, at the Compass Green, with festivities centred around a stage graced by local artists, emceed by Vicki Wheaton and Catherine Tyson.
Performers included Melody Knox, Dream Chaser’s Dance Team, Erica Assai, Daniela Campbell, Trinity featuring Kate and Melody Knox, Native Touch, Rico Rolando and Vyrhal.
There was no shortage of family-friendly fun, with face painting, bouncy castles, corn hole, food trucks, a 360-degree camera and raffles.
Of the funds raised, 90% were slated to directly benefit Litchmore and little Josiah. Those funds are earmarked for essential living expenses, rent, utilities, medical supplies, and a trip to the Miami Children’s Hospital next month.
The remaining 10% was donated to the Cayman Heart Foundation, formerly Cayman Heart Fund, which ran a booth at the concert to help educate families on heart health.
Litchmore says she has been able to see the positive side of how events unfolded in May last year when she received the devastating double blow of her and her baby’s diagnoses.
She realised that her pregnancy led to earlier diagnosis for her, allowing her to seek treatment with the support of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. The Cayman Heart Foundation is also helping facilitate Josiah’s treatment.
Litchmore thanked concert attendees for their support during this ongoing journey.
