A woman remains in critical condition in hospital after a single-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning.

The incident happened shortly before 2am, police said in a brief statement.

The serious crash occurred on Shamrock Road, in the vicinity of Impulse Close, according to police, and involved a red Honda Integra. The driver was the lone occupant.

The car was travelling westbound when it left the roadway and hit a utility pole, the statement said.

Emergency services attended the scene and the driver was extracted from the vehicle by Fire Service officers, and transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital by ambulance.

The incident is being investigated by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit.

The road was partially closed briefly Tuesday morning but has since been fully reopened.
