When it comes to inventiveness, it’s hard to beat the creative events presented by the Cayman Cocktail Week team each year.
Now, celebrating its 10th anniversary, CCW is scheduled to run from 21-28 Oct. Fans of a tasty tipple or two can indulge in everything from a pop-up tiki bar to a hip hop gourmet evening.
As ever, there were some pre-CCW teasers such as a shopping night at Carey’s Karma Closet and the Cayman Cocktail Tour. The latter was sold out, setting the stage for the main features that are fast approaching.
Here is the full schedule. Get your tickets early or risk missing out.
Thursday, 20 Oct.
Speed Rack Finals @ Lillie’s
7pm-close
The preliminaries are done and dusted, with only eight competitors left to go head-to-head behind the bar. Professional bartenders are given scant minutes to create multiple drinks, only finding out seconds before the start of each round which recipes they’ll be expected to recreate. Points are deducted for missing ingredients, lack of presentation and other tricky slip-ups. Time is of the essence, with a winner emerging at the end.
Tickets are $25, with proceeds going to the Cayman Islands Breast Cancer Foundation. Drink specials and raffle prizes, not to mention sample stations, are all part of a great, energetic and entertaining evening. Buy online through eventpro.ky.
Saturday, 22 Oct.
Mad Tea Party @ Anchor & Den
1:30-4pm
What go together like tea and crumpets? Cocktails and embroidery, apparently. This event doesn’t just promise high tea – it also offers guests three Botanist Gin cocktails and an embroidery class, all as part of the one price. It’s all very ‘Downton Abbey’. Perhaps best to employ the needle early in the proceedings, lest you imbibe and prick yourself, dear.
Tickets are $80 plus grats. Email [email protected] for reservations.
Loose Cannon Tiki Bar @ Piccolino’s Caffe (Old Margaritaville Hotel)
3-11pm
This is a CCW pop-up situation! Head to Piccolino’s Caffe, which will have been transformed with nautical tiki décor. There will be music, sirens, surprises and, of course, unique cocktails ‘on board’.
No cover charge, just a cash bar, me hearties. Email [email protected] to get on the guest list and be treated to some free grog.
Sunday, 23 Oct.
Chai and Chaat @ The Bubble Bar, Cracked Conch
12:30-3pm
Chef Muthu’s Indian Street Food Brunch is a feast for the senses. This event sold out quickly last year, which is unsurprising considering what’s in store. Five casual courses, four high-end cocktails, henna, and more, make this the ultimate way to spend a Sunday.
Tickets are $100 plus grats. Much less expensive than a flight to the country of spices. Call 945-5217 to reserve your spot.
Coffee Club @ Bay Side
2-4pm
If you haven’t yet been to Bay Side, you are missing out. The food is scrumptious and it’s nicely located a distance from the bustle of the Seven Mile Strip. Anyone who loves their coffee should sign up for this event, where they can compare three different styles of martini made with decadent spirits. Ever tried a Zacapa rum espresso martini? Now’s your chance!
Tickets are $35 plus gratuity and include a selection of Bay Side bites to pair with your drinks. Email [email protected].
Monday, 24 Oct.
Muddled @ The Bird
7pm-close
Like the TV show ‘Chopped’ with a twist, muddled is a cocktail competition that features secret ingredients, lots of energy, and – usually – a decent amount of mess. This is definitely an industry night event, but everyone is invited to come along; the more, the merrier. Prizes are bottles of booze and, more importantly, bragging rights.
No cover at all for this one, and there is a cash bar on the premises.
Wednesday, 26 Oct.
Hip Hop Gourmet @ Next Door, Camana Bay
7pm-close
Next Door in Camana Bay is switching vibes to make it a hip hop hangout for the evening. Enjoy a tequila masterclass, taco tasting and toe-tapping hip-hop music while you relax in the comfortable lounge atmosphere of this popular bar.
Tickets are $125 including grats. Buy online through eventpro.ky.
Night in White @ Backroom
9pm-close
This industry night at Backroom will have DJ Urusai spinning the hits until close. Guests are encourage to wear white, but hey – if you haven’t got it in your wardrobe, don’t fret. Wear what you wish and come along anyway.
No cover, just cool vibes and a cash bar. Hennessy sidecars highly recommended.
Thursday, 27 Oct.
Re-mixology @ Agua
6:30pm-close
Always one of the highlights of CCW, the themed dinner at Agua is a bestseller, so book your table early. Tickets include live music, four melodious courses, six rock-n-roll cocktails and an evening of fun and fine dining. Wear your best rock star sparkly trousers or just come ready for another creative cocktail dinner at Agua.
Tickets are $125 plus grats. Buy online through eventpro.ky.
