Starting Sunday, 16 Oct., Public Health will be holding vaccination clinics for healthcare workers and people aged 70 and above, to receive a Moderna (bivalent) COVID-19 booster.
This booster “enhances protection against the omicron variant of COVID-19”, Public Health said in a press release issued Friday. Cayman received the Moderna booster a week ago, with the first phase of the campaign targeting people in care homes.
“Caregivers of persons 70+ are also eligible for this booster in the continued effort to keep the most vulnerable safe,” Public Health said.
Anyone who received their last COVID-19 vaccination or booster more than three months ago will be eligible for this fall booster shot.
As the vaccine is rolled out, it will be made available to other priority groups, which will be detailed on each new schedule that is released, according to Public Health.
These groups are:
- Elderly residents (70+)
- Healthcare workers
- Adults 60+
- Individuals with underlying medical conditions (ages16-49)
- Adults 50+
The new schedule is for the Moderna fall booster only. No appointment is required, with the shots provided on a first come, first served basis. Individuals still completing the primary course of the Pfizer vaccine (dose 1 and dose 2), should refer to the regular COVID-19 vaccine schedule, Public Health said.
