Cayman residents finish strong at Chicago Marathon

Cayman residents Rogerio Pitta and Oddy Grullon were among the more than 40,000 runners who participated in the 2022 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, on Sunday, 9 Oct.

Pitta said that it was his first major marathon outside the Cayman Islands. He finished at number 8,481 among the men and 11,945 overall, clocking in at 3:51:08.

Grullon, who is running four marathons to raise funds for the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, finished 1,913 among the women and 8,127 overall, in a time of 3:34:57.

Both runners received medals for their efforts.

East End Lions crowned U23 FA champions

East End Lions defeated fellow district team East End United FC to claim the 2022 Cayman Islands Football Association Men’s Summer Under 23 FA Cup.

The match, held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex on Sunday, 9 Oct., was decided by the slimmest of margins, with Jeremiah Solomon scoring the game’s only goal in the 60th minute.

National darts team to compete in Costa Rica

Hank Ebanks and Richard Campbell are set to represent the Cayman Islands during the Professional Darts Corporation Qualifying Tournament in Costa Rica, taking place 15-16 Oct..
This tournament is being held as part of the qualifiers for the America’s and Caribbean Regions.

Annual Foster’s Sea Swim set for weekend

Swimmers are readying themselves for the 38th annual Foster’s 800-metre Sea Swim, scheduled to take place on Saturday, 15 Oct.

The open-water event starts at 4pm at Governors Beach, with registration from 3pm to 3:45pm.
