Cayman’s Under-23 volleyball players are gearing up to hit the sand on Saturday for the first Under 23 Beach Volleyball Tournament.
Trevor Theroulde, national technical director for Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation, announced the players will be flying the Cayman Islands flag for the weekend event when he appeared on the Cayman Compass Facebook talkshow the Resh Hour Wednesday night.
There will be eight Cayman athletes competing comprising three female teams and one male team, he said, adding that the event is being hosted by Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation.
Teams from Canada, the US, Trinidad & Tobago, Aruba and Guatemala will square off with the Cayman squads at the Public Beach courts.
He said due to some teams dropping out of the event for varying reasons, the decision was taken to scale back the competition by one day, so it will run from 29-30 Oct.
US coach and Olympic volleyball player Nick Lucena, who also appeared on the show, said he was excited for his team to showcase their skills and also learn from the other teams competing at the international event.
