After a sendoff event at the South Sound Rugby Club on Tuesday, 8 Nov., Cayman’s national rugby squad is in Mexico City for the 2022 Rugby Americas North Super Sevens.
Cayman will have their hands full over the course of the 11-13 Nov. tournament, being held at UNAM Deportivo Alfredo Harp Helu grounds. Competing at the event are 29 teams from 13 RAN countries across senior men, senior women, and age-grade men’s and women’s divisions.
The Cayman contingent has entered a women’s and men’s age-grade team. The women’s squad will take on México, México ‘B’, and Trinidad and Tobago, while the men will face off against Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, British Virgin Islands, México ‘B’, México and Curacao.
In addition, Cayman is fielding a men’s team in the senior division, which features Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao, México, The Bahamas, St. Lucia, Bermuda, Barbados, Belize and the Dominican Republic.
Teams taking part in the tournament have their sights set on qualifying for up to three international rugby competitions scheduled for 2023.
