A 24-year-old Bodden Town man remains in custody on suspicion of rape, wrongful confinement, and aggravated burglary after an attack in George Town Friday morning.

Police, in a statement Friday night, said officers received a report of a serious sexual assault earlier in the morning, which reportedly happened at a residence in the vicinity of Crewe Road, in George Town.

Police said a woman was at the address when a man she knows entered the house brandishing weapons and restrained her.

The attacker then proceeded to sexually assault her after which he transported her to another location.

Police said shortly afterwards officers located and arrested the man.

The victim in the incident received minor injuries during the assault and was taken to hospital for treatment, police said. She was later discharged.

Police have assured that appropriate safeguard measures have been put in place for the victim as investigations continue.
