Movember, the annual event that raises funds for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society while promoting some questionable moustache choices, came to a close recently in a fun-filled night at the Sandbar in George Town.

This year’s hirsute efforts raised $42,000, and funds are still being donated, one of the organisers, Dave O’Driscoll said.

This year’s winners were Jason Keating for his ‘Classic Mo’; Shane Connolly, for his ‘Costume Mo’, who also took the title of Man of Movember; Tyson for his ‘Barely Mo’; Jo Austin, dressed as Mr. Motivator, who was named ‘Mo Sista’, and Danny Varszegi and Veronica McKitrick, dressed as Obelix and Asterix, for ‘Group Mo’.

Each year, at the start of November, participants have a close shave and then begin growing their moustaches, in a bid to win one of the several categories. All funds raised go to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, which helps fund men’s PSA testing and assists those financially who are suffering with cancer.

This year’s event was sponsored by Studio54, DMS, Jacques Scott and Cayman Gateway.

Movember started in Australia in 2003 as an initiative to raise awareness of, and money for, prostate and testicular cancers, and can now be found in countries around the world.
