A former auxiliary police constable has denied intimidating a key witness in the murder investigation of Shaquille Bush.
Appearing before the Grand Court on Friday, 3 Feb., the officer entered not guilty pleas to charges of doing an act to obstruct, pervert or defeat the course of justice, and breach of trust.
The allegations stem from an incident on 17 Nov. 2019 at the Cayman Islands Detention Centre on Fairbanks Road in George Town, during which he is said to have threatened Nikkieta Ebanks to give no-comment answers in the murder investigation which implicated Roger Deward Bush, Ebanks’ then partner.
Shaquille Bush was shot 15 times in a “hail of bullets” five days prior by his father over rumours that the young man was having an affair with his father’s partner. Roger Bush has since been convicted of the murder and is currently serving a 33-year prison sentence. At the time of his death, Shaquille Bush was 24 years old.
The auxiliary constable who now finds himself on trial is alleged to have been one of Roger Bush’s associates. He was released on bail, with a seven-day judge-alone trial set for 22 May.
He is no longer employed with the RCIPS.
A court-imposed order prevents the Cayman Compass from identifying the defendant.
