Bush case file now with DPP

The police case file on allegations of inappropriate behaviour levelled against veteran lawmaker McKeeva Bush is now with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal ruling, police have said.

A preliminary file, which had initially been submitted last October to the DPP, was returned to police for further inquiries.

Police, responding to Cayman Compass queries on the investigation, confirmed the file into the investigation is currently with the ODPP.

The Compass reached out for comment and an update on the progress of the case file, but the ODPP said it was unable to provide the requested information at this time.

An investigation was launched after an incident allegedly involving Bush, the West Bay West MP and former House Speaker, which occurred at a government reception for the Caribbean Tourism Organization conference in September last year.

Police originally began investigations, following what they termed “social media reports circulating of an incident/incidents of assault”, at a government-sponsored event on 13 Sept.

The nature of the allegations was not released.

Bush is also being investigated for an allegation of sexual assault that occurred more than two decades ago.

Police, in November last year, confirmed to the Compass that the RCIPS received a complaint “concerning an allegation of sexual assault by Mr. Bush dating back to 2000”.

No further details of the alleged sexual assault were made public.

Police told the Compass last week that this second incident is “under active investigation and progressing satisfactorily”.
