The Cayman Islands Humane Society will hold its annual 5K Walk and Wag on Sunday, 12 March, at Safehaven, when pet lovers and their four-legged friends go for an early morning stroll to raise much-needed funds for the shelter.
Participants can also pick up dogs from the shelter and take them along for the walk.
As of 1 March, there were 63 dogs in the shelter and 83 dogs in foster homes.
The shelter will be open from 6am the day of the event for people to collect a dog.

“After the event, we hope that participants will take them for breakfast or the beach so the dogs will have a nice, long, well-deserved break from their kennels,” said the Humane Society’s Saskia Salden.
She said there had previously been some adoptions resulting from Walk and Wag “and we hope this will happen again this year”.
The registration fee is $25 and people can sign up at the shelter or via Cayman Active.
The first 200 people who register will receive a free T-shirt and everybody who finishes will be given a raffle ticket and can win prizes.
“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Cayman Islands Humane Society so it is a special year for us,” Salden said. “We will have lots of special events to celebrate this milestone.”
She said the fun family event, which begins at 7am, is open to all, with or without a dog to walk.
