The Ministry of Health and Wellness issued a statement Wednesday advising that information being circulated via email and WhatsApp about flight restrictions due to an Ebola outbreak is fake.
“There has been no suspicion, much less confirmation, of the Ebola virus in the Cayman Islands to date,” Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nick Gent said.
Health Minister Sabrina Turner confirmed that the Cayman Islands government has “not imposed any new restrictions on the arrivals of passengers to our Islands, and this statement being attributed to me and my Ministry is unequivocally false and misleading”.
The misinformation claims that the “new Ebola virus” was detected locally in tourists and restrictions on passengers and airlines would be coming into effect later this month.
This is the latest in fake news emails being circulated on island by unknown individuals.
