The Cayman Islands national men’s football team is gearing up for their final match of the 2022-23 CONCACAF Nations League against the leader in their group.

Cayman’s squad, who is ranked 194th in the world by FIFA, travelled to Puerto Rico over the weekend for their match against the home team, which is ranked 170th.

The match will be played at the Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón on Sunday, 26 March.

Claudio Garcia, Cayman’s national football head coach told the Cayman Compass that he expects his team to give it their best shot in their second match against Puerto Rico.

“We are building and renovating the senior men’s national team,” Garcia said. This [match] will give us a lot of information and indications from the players that we have been working with since November.

“The group is very committed, very interested – a lot of effort and sacrifice has been put in. I believe Puerto Rico will try to press us at the beginning of the game and we are prepared for that. I am expecting a good game from us and I’m very happy with the group.”

Cayman has recorded two draws against the British Virgin Islands and a loss to Puerto Rico in Group D of their Nations League bracket that kicked off last year.

The match will begin 5pm Cayman time and will be streamed live on the CONCACAF Facebook page.
