One person was killed in a single-vehicle collision on Shamrock Road in the early hours of Sunday morning, police have said.

Details on the individual who died were not released; however, the Compass understands the driver was female.

The incident occurred just after 1:30am, police said in a statement.

Officers and other emergency services responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision that took place on Shamrock Road, in the vicinity of Coral Bay Village, George Town.

Police said it appeared that the vehicle was travelling in the westbound lane when the driver lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway and colliding with a wall.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle on impact.

The driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance and pronounced deceased by the attending doctor.

As of 9:30am Sunday, the road where the deadly crash occurred remained closed.

Motorists are being diverted to Rex Crighton Boulevard, as the roadway between Poindexter Road and Spotts Newlands Road on Shamrock Road has been closed to facilitate the investigation.

Police are encouraging the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
