Coroner’s court: Fatal accidents were the result of misadventure

The deaths of Trevin Sherwayne Garfield Roberts and Brandon Joseph Thompson, who were killed in separate single-vehicle collisions on the same road four months apart, have been ruled as misadventure by the coroner’s court.

According to police, Roberts, a 41-year-old Guyanese national living in Cayman, was travelling along Rex Creighton Boulevard shortly after 10:30am on 27 March 2020 when he lost control of his SUV, which flipped several times.

Roberts was thrown from the vehicle and landed on the asphalt, sustaining serious injuries to his head, neck, torso and internal organs. He was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Four months before Roberts died, Thompson was also killed end along the same stretch of road.

Thompson, 26, died after his vehicle collided with a utility pole in the early morning hours of 19 Dec. 2019.

He was the sole occupant in the car, and was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Roberts and Thompson’s cases were heard by the coroner’s court on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, respectively, at which time the jury of four men and three women returned unanimous verdicts of death by misadventure.
