For nearly an hour on Monday, 23 Oct., a Grand Court jury of six men and six women took turns touring a quaint shopping complex on School Road, George Town, as a police witness guided them through the events of a robbery gone wrong that ended in the shooting death of retired prison officer Harry Elliott Jr.
Not far off, with their hands and feet handcuffed, and under the watchful gaze of prison officers and armed police, were defendants Justin Kyle Jackson and Eric Brian Williams-Soto.
A court-imposed order prevents the Cayman Compass from releasing any of the images that were taken during the site visit.
Jackson, 25, is alleged to have been the gunman, while Williams-Soto is said to have been his accomplice. They have both denied charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
A third man, Cain Thomas, who was killed a few days after Elliott, is thought to have picked the two men up a mile away from the scene.
The shop, which now serves as a sewing studio, was once an illegal gambling den. On the night in question, Elliott had entered the building to purchase an illegal lottery ticket. Not long after that, two men entered the building, with their faces covered.

“This is where they would have entered,” said Detective Superintendent Russell These, as he pointed to the narrow passageway.
“After the shot was fired, the body of Mr. Elliott fell here, and they would have left through the same place they entered,” added These.
Upon returning to the courthouse, the jury was shown CCTV camera footage of roads in the general vicinity of the murder scene. The video showed the two suspects running off towards the Rock Hole community, where they were picked up by Thompson’s green Honda CRV, which had driven around the area several times.
Eventually the CRV was driven to Thomas’s grandmother’s yard in Windsor Park, where the three men exited and began to have a discussion among themselves, but there was no audio of that conversation.
The trial resumes on Tuesday, 24 Oct. Jackson and Williams-Soto were both remanded into custody.
