Molly Kehoe, arguably the best female player from the Cayman Islands, has been named Player of the Month for her club in Wales, the Cardiff City Bluebirds.
Kehoe, 19, was clearly the fan favourite, as they voted the attacking midfielder the October Player of the Month, accumulating an overwhelming 72% of the votes in the poll.
“[It] feels great to get Player of the Month and score some important goals for the team in my first few months with Cardiff,” Kehoe told the Compass.
She signed with Cardiff back in July and made her debut in late September. In her second match with the Bluebirds on Sunday, 1 Oct., Kehoe helped her team to victory after netting her first goal. She scored four more times in October and again earlier this month.
Head coach Iain Darbyshire stated in a Cardiff City press release that he was delighted to see the Caymanian striker recognised for her hard work.
“She had an excellent month in October and scored some really important goals for us,” Darbyshire said. “She has settled in really well since signing for us in the summer and has shown her quality.”
While Kehoe, who sports No. 15 on her team jersey, continues to make a name for herself in the Welsh Adran Premier League, where Cardiff City remains unbeaten, she said she also appreciated her hometown fans.
“I’m thankful for all the support I have in Cayman,” Kehoe added.
She will now turn her focus to national duty, as Cayman looks to avenge their recent loss to Curaçao in the CONCACAF Road to W Gold Cup, when they play again on 4 Dec. Kehoe will then travel back to the UK, to join Cardiff for the match against Aberystwyth Town on 17 Dec.
