A 39-year-old George Town man was arrested on Sunday, 26 Nov., after police officers found a semi-automatic handgun.
Just after 9:30pm, the RCIPS Firearms Response Unit went to a location on Eastern Avenue where it was believed that illegal activities involving an unlicensed firearm had taken place.
According to a police press release, when officers arrived they saw a vehicle that appeared to have damage consistent with gunshots.
They carried out a search of the vehicle and the surrounding area.
The next day, they went back to do an “extensive daylight search of the grounds” during which spent cartridge cases and one 9mm semi-automatic handgun were recovered.
They arrested the man on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He has been bailed pending ongoing inquiries.
