Border Control Minister Dwayne Seymour has opted not to reappoint the former members of both the Caymanian Status and Permanent Residency Board and the Business Staffing Plan Board.
Seymour, in a statement Monday afternoon, named new boards with George Anthony (Tony) Powell appointed as chairman of the Status and PR board, replacing attorney Steve McField.
Jacqueline Terry has been named as Powell’s deputy.
Juliette Johnson De Feu has been appointed to lead the Business Staffing Plan Board replacing former chairman attorney Richard Barton.
Radio Cayman broadcaster Orrett Connor has been named as Johnson De Feu’s deputy.
The two-year appointments come after concerns were raised over the delay in filling the posts when the boards’ terms expired back in September.
The new board appointments are effective immediately and run until 30 September 2025.
Seymour, in announcing the board changes, said new members bring a wealth of experience and expertise with “their diverse backgrounds and have a deep understanding of the challenges associated with immigration”, as well as the opportunities that exist within labour markets.
“Your commitment to upholding the Immigration Act is instrumental in ensuring the integrity of our immigration systems. As stewards of this crucial legislation, you play a pivotal role in shaping the socio-economic landscape of the Cayman Islands,” he said.
He said he looked forward to working collaboratively with the members “as we continue to make meaningful contributions to the effectiveness of our immigration systems”.
Seymour said their willingness to undertake the responsibility not only reflects their individual dedication to public service but also acknowledges the collective understanding of the importance of a well-regulated immigration system.
McField has retained the chairmanship of the Immigration Appeals Tribunal (IAT).
