A man was taken in a private vehicle to Cayman Islands Hospital with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his stomach early this morning, Friday, 26 Jan.
Police in a press release said that shortly after 2am, officers were notified of the injury and attended the hospital.
While there, they determined where the incident may have taken place and informed police units who went to the location, in the vicinity of Finch Drive, West Bay, to investigate.
They found evidence of a “firearm incident”, the press release said, and items were recovered for forensic analysis.
At the hospital, officers searched a 23-year-old man from West Bay who was there with the shooting victim.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession and consumption of cocaine and marijuana and taken to the Cayman Islands Detention Centre for processing.
