Jasmine volunteers to take to the streets across the Cayman Islands to raise money for palliative and hospice care

Jasmine, Cayman’s only dedicated palliative and hospice care provider, is gearing up for Flag Day, its biggest fundraising event of the year. The charity’s 24th annual coin drive will take place on Friday, March 1st, and Saturday, March 2nd this year, with over four hundred dedicated volunteers taking to the streets to collect much-needed donations.

Throughout the weekend, volunteers wearing distinctive blue Jasmine t-shirts can be found at various locations across all three islands, enthusiastically collecting donations in their cans and buckets with the aim of raising CI$100,000 for families facing a serious illness.

Sophie Munden, Jasmine’s Fundraising and Events Coordinator, emphasized the critical role community support plays in Jasmine’s mission. “Jasmine depends on the generosity of the community to ensure we can provide free support to the 70 families a month who come to us for help with a serious illness. We are humbled every year by the outpouring of support from individuals, schools, and corporate supporters alike. This year, twelve companies have agreed to match donations made by the public, doubling the impact of your support. Dart, for example, are very generously matching all donations collected throughout the weekend in Camana Bay. We could not do our work without the help of every single person who donates time or funds to our cause.”

Jasmine volunteers will be stationed at supermarkets, banks, and large stores like A.L. Thompson’s, J Michael, and Atlantic. Supporters can also donate online at jasmine.ky/donate and Jasmine invites the public to hold their own fundraisers in support of Flag Day throughout the month of March.
