North Side and East End police officers, as well as the Eastern Districts Traffic and Road Policing Unit, will be operating out of the East End police station, according to the RCIPS.

The North Side station remains closed after being damaged in a suspected arson incident in July last year.

In a statement issued on Friday, the RCIPS said the amalgamation of the two stations into a single base of operations was the beginning of a “phased approach towards enhancing policing presence and response time in the districts of North Side and East End”.

Superintendent Richard Barrow, who oversees policing in the eastern districts and the Sister Islands, said in the statement, “Conducting operations out of the East End Police Station allows us to increase our police presence in North Side and East End, and provide more efficient service to these communities.

“The increased presence at the station has already resulted in walk-ins.

“Going forward, the intention is to build to providing full 24-hour coverage at the station.”

He added that the initiative was in direct response to community feedback, as local residents had asked to see more officers in their communities.

“We intend to replicate these activities at the North Side Police Station, once it has been repaired and is again operational,” he said.

Dave Richard Ebanks, 55, of Rum Point Drive in North Side, was arrested and charged last year for the alleged arson attack on the station. He is expected to stand trial on 2 July.
