While giving an update on the latest annual crime statistics, Police Commissioner Kurt Walton said the North Side Police Station is expected to be up and running again by early 2025 at the latest.

The station closed down temporarily in July last year after it was damaged in a fire, which is suspected to have been set deliberately.

The man who allegedly started the blaze, which badly damaged the station last July but did not cause any injuries, has pleaded not guilty to arson.

He is expected to stand trial on 2 July. The RCIPS issued a tender for contractors to complete the structural repairs.

“We’re going through a procurement exercise at this very moment,” Walton said. “The North Side Police Station, if not open in 2024, will certainly be open in early 2025.”

The deadline was 29 March for the tender to replace the fire-damaged roof and make other repairs. Walton did not indicate a date for choosing a contractor.

For now, North Side and East End police officers are both operating out of the East End Police Station.

Walton said residents have often shared their concerns about a dearth of patrolling on the eastern side of the island, and he has made it a priority to ensure they get adequate service.
