Cayman International School took first place in basketball at the inaugural Caribbean International Sports Association tournament, hosted by the Columbus School in Medellin Colombia, from 17-21 April.
The CIS under-18 boys basketball team bested four schools, including from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Colombia, to earn the trophy.
Cayman’s Griffin Macdonald earned MVP honours and the tournament’s 3-point shooting championship, after an outstanding performance on the court.
“A resounding congratulations is extended to the CIS student athletes for their remarkable tournament journey and the boys’ basketball teams triumphant finals victory,” Jared Joiner, CIS activities director, told the Compass.
“Special acknowledgment goes to the coaches for their exceptional leadership and preparation, instrumental in guiding the teams through such memorable moments.”

While CIS won the basketball category, the tournament also included football and volleyball competitions for both girls and boys.
CIS did not win the overall title in those categories, but Cayman’s Ava Degrand did secure the girls football golden boot award.
In addition to all of Cayman’s success at the tournament, Griffin, James Fletcher, Cyanne Raftopolous, Harper Nelson, Olivia Schofield, Ailey Finch and Brooks Anderson and Degrand were all named to the tournament’s all-star team.
