When people emerged after Hurricane Ivan, the general reaction was shock and disbelief. Grand Cayman was unrecognisable.
Jobs were lost, homes and businesses destroyed. In the aftermath, the basics were hard to come by. Many lives were inevitably changed forever.
While the storm inflicted severe damage, it came up short against the spirit of the people. Rebuilding began immediately.
Ivan affected Grand Cayman in countless ways, and the changes it brought are evident even today. In the end, however, Ivan made Cayman stronger, more prepared and resilient.
