Police have detained a 61-year-old man on suspicion of manslaughter by reason of gross negligence in relation to an incident that occurred on 21 Jan.
The man, a George Town resident, was released on police bail pending further investigation, an RCIPS statement on Wednesday morning said.
Police did not provide any information on the incident that triggered the manslaughter investigation.
The police statement follows a Health Services Authority statement on Tuesday night stating that it was aware that one of its visiting practitioners had been arrested.
“The individual has been placed on leave until further notice. We are unable to provide further details at this time while investigations are ongoing,” the short HSA statement said.
Both police and HSA declined to confirm details of the case or release further information on the circumstances that led to the arrest.
Independent sources have indicated that the two matters are connected and the doctor is involved.
The RCIPS, when contacted for further information, told the Compass, “an active investigation is currently underway. We are unable to provide further comment at this time”.
The HSA offered a similar line when pressed to confirm the connection, saying, “We are unable to provide further details at this time while investigations are ongoing.”
