The Department of Environment has asked the public to be on the lookout for a distressed loggerhead turtle swimming along Seven Mile Beach that has been entangled in two buoy markers.
The DoE, in a post on its official Facebook page, said conservation officers received a report of the entangled turtle swimming freely in the Seven Mile Beach area on Saturday afternoon.
It said that a report was made by a dive operator from the south end of Seven Mile Beach near the new Hyatt construction site.
“DoE searches of the surrounding area so far have been unsuccessful. As the turtle is swimming freely, it could now be in other parts of the island,” the DoE said.
The public is being asked to be on the lookout for two small yellow and white buoys travelling across the water.
The public is being urged to report anything they suspect might be the distressed turtle to DoE Conservation Officers on 916-4271.
